Born Yiannis Chryssomallis in Kalamata, Greece, in 1954, Yanni’s path to music was unique. Before he became a world-famous artist, he was a member of the Greek national swimming team, breaking a national freestyle record at 14. After moving to the United States to study psychology at the University of Minnesota, he graduated in 1976 before deciding to pursue his true passion for music.
